Bethesda Says Fallout 76 Focus Won’t Negatively Impact Fallout 5 Development

Bethesda Will Work On Both Titles Simultaneously!

Story Highlight
  • Fallout 5 is expected to be the next game from Bethesda Game Studios after The Elder Scrolls 6.
  • Meanwhile, the team will continue supporting Fallout 76 and adding new content to the game.
  • The studio also believes that this approach won’t hold back the development of Fallout 5.

Bethesda’s Fallout franchise is one of the most significant in the industry, and the studio is currently plotting a course for work on Fallout 5.

While Fallout 5 is still in very early development, some fans have expressed concerns about Bethesda’s focus on Fallout 76 negatively impacting the next entry. However, a Bethesda developer has offered more clarification, stating that there’s nothing to worry about.

Why it matters: Many studios can find it difficult to support multiple games at once. This has been observed with teams like Naughty Dog, who haven’t been able to release a new game in many years.

Fallout Has Recently Seen A Massive Resurgence

During a recent interview with TheGamer, Fallout 76’s creative director, Jon Rush, talked about the fan perspective that live service titles hold back the studio from working on other projects.

He states this is not the case with Fallout 5. It is also important to note that the game is many years away, though recent reports have suggested that Bethesda wants to get it out before 2030.

If anything, when Fallout 5 does come out, it’ll make it even more impactful. But [Fallout 76] isn’t holding anything back.

-Jon Rush

He said that the fan perspective makes sense from the outside, as a studio like Naughty Dog cancelled its live service project because it thought the team would be held back by this focus.

However, Bethesda has so much experience with Fallout 76 support now that the team is equipped to handle these challenges. Starfield was also created while the team supported Fallout 76.

The Fallout Show Is Returning With The Second Season Soon

While not much is known about Fallout 5, the developers have plans to revive the franchise sooner than expected following the success of the HBO show, which is also returning soon with a second season.

However, The Elder Scrolls 6 is up next since Bethesda has already reached a point where this RPG is in a playable state.
