Story Highlight
  • The Xbox 360 Digital Store is officially going away in a few hours.
  • While players can access older purchases after the closure, they won’t be able to buy anything from the store.
  • One of the Xbox veterans has also acknowledged the closure, stating every good thing must come to an end.

The Xbox 360 has been a special console for Microsoft since it remains the company’s best-selling hardware despite being released nearly two decades ago.

Microsoft has supported the Xbox 360 for as long as it could, but it was confirmed that the Xbox 360 Digital Store would be permanently shut down in July. As expected, the store will soon be closed down today after staying up for almost 19 years.

Why it matters: Before its closure, physical Xbox 360 games saw a significant price hike, suggesting that players haven’t ultimately moved on from the console and its massive library.

Microsoft is set to shut the store down permanently in just a few hours.

Over the last few months, fans have rushed to buy their favorite games on the digital store before time runs out. Microsoft was generous enough to offer various discounts on many titles, making it easier for fans to stack up on digital purchases one last time.

More than 200 games are expected to disappear from Xbox following this closure. Many of these likely have physical counterparts that can still be found through third-party online stores, but fans should expect inflated prices for these games.

Fortunately, Xbox has confirmed that online access for the Xbox 360 will not be discontinued. Similarly, already purchased games can still be downloaded through the library.

Commenting on the situation, Xbox veteran Larry Hryb has thanked fans for supporting and enjoying the console for so many years.

Almost 19 years on, all good things must come to an end. Thank [you] for having fun, playing fair, and filing feedback.

The Xbox 360 Had An Incredible Library

While we wish the store could’ve stayed for a bit longer, as its closure is a hard pill to swallow, we believe this was inevitable and would have happened sooner or later. Nonetheless, the Xbox 360 had a great run.

It came up with a massive and epic library of games for the players, which became one of the reasons for its significant success over the years. Although its digital store will be gone soon, the console itself will stay in our hearts forever.
