12% Faster Than 5800X3D But 2% Faster Than 7800X3D!

Story Highlight
  • AMD has confirmed new details about the Ryzen 9000 CPUs.
  • The Ryzen 7 9700X is said to be 12% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D in various gaming tests.
  • On the other hand, the chip is just 2% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

AMD has confirmed the launch of its Ryzen 9000 CPUs for the end of this month, July 31. However, the pricing has yet to be revealed. Four models will launch on this date, including the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X.

The gaming giant has also shared new benchmarks for its CPUs. The highest-tier Ryzen 9 9950X has received Cinebench scores, while new information on the Ryzen 7 9700X performance has also been revealed.

Why it matters: The CPU seems disappointing, with barely any performance difference over the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

AMD Slides Detail The Efficiency of The Ryzen 7 9700X

AMD claims the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 9700X CPU will be 12% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. It also claims that it has accomplished the feat of outperforming a 105W 3D V-Cache CPU with its 65W TDP CPU.

However, AMD didn’t tell us about the performance of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D compared to the Ryzen 7 9700X. This is because, during an event, it was revealed that the Ryzen 7 9700X is only 2% faster than the 7800X3D.

This tells us that the Ryzen 7 9700X is practically the same CPU but more efficient for a higher price.

AMD Is Selling The Ryzen 9000 Series On Its Efficiency

According to a different slide, the business is attempting to pitch the AMD Ryzen 9000 on energy efficiency. They are experimenting with the TDP this time. In particular, the Ryzen 9000 series is more efficient than its predecessor.

However, that could also explain the small performance gains.

It is evident that Ryzen 7000 owners should not upgrade to the new generation. Perhaps Ryzen 5000 owners should be more inclined toward an upgrade since the Ryzen 9000 lineup seems like a major step up over that generation and is based on the AM5 platform.
