Handheld Receiving Poor Reception From Market!

Story Highlights
  • The MSI Claw has already been discounted
  • UK retailer Curry’s is currently offering a 25% discount on the handheld.
  • The gaming handheld is plagued by a higher price and worse performance compared to the competition.

Unlike others on the market, MSI is currently offering an Intel-powered gaming handheld. While it was an ambitious move to beat its competition by offering something new, the MSI Claw sadly didn’t do well because of its underpowered Intel chip and high MSRP.

Even the most recent reviews frequently stress that while the MSI Claw is an okay device overall, its price is a problem. At launch, Intel’s first gaming handheld device cost more than either the Lenovo Legion Go or the ASUS ROG Ally.

However, this handheld has just been discounted. Currently, the Core Ultra 7 155H variant is on sale for just £599.

Why it matters: The MSI Claw is already less compelling than the competition since it relies on Intel chips, making it a risky investment.

The UK Is The First Region To Offer A Discount On The Handheld

This is £200 or 25% less than when it was first released on the UK’s online retailer Curry’s. The MSI Claw Core Ultra 7 155H edition is also the flagship model and comes equipped with 1TB of SSD storage.

The discounted MSI Claw Core Ultra 7 155H edition is only available in the UK for the time being. But considering the response from the market, retailers in the US might soon offer a discount as well.

For a gaming handheld to get a discount in its early release cycle is an indication of poor sales. The issue is that, although being considerably faster in terms of gaming, both the Lenovo Legion Go and the ASUS ROG Ally are cheaper than the MSI Claw.

Recent reviews of the MSI Claw have been quite critical of the product, pointing to its poor performance and buggy proprietary software. All in all, MSI may not have made the wisest choice venturing into this growing market without a proper plan.

We think MSI overestimated the price of its first Intel gaming handheld device.

However, this is something we have seen before from the likes of Asus with its lower-end Rog Ally Ryzen Z1 non-Extreme model, which was later discounted to just $300 from its original MSRP of $500.

It looks like MSI Claw might be headed in the same direction, though the competition still seems like the better purchase after this discount.
