Is This Enough To Save Skull and Bones?

Story Highlights
  • Skull and Bones launched in mid-February.
  • Exactly two months after launch, the game is being sold at a 50% discount by Ubisoft.
  • This seems to be a sign of poor sales for the title.

Skull and Bones, poorly reviewed at launch, has become one of this year’s most infamous releases. Even though Ubisoft shared encouraging information at first, the game appears to have fallen behind other releases.

The title’s price was already cut by 30% within the first two weeks, but Ubisoft has added an even bigger price cut to the game. Skull and Bones is now being sold at a 50% discount.

Why it matters: The studio has yet to share a sales update for Skull and Bones. This, combined with the massive discount, might be an indication that it sold below expectations.

The latest discount comes from Ubisoft itself on PC. Meanwhile, console players will find the game at full price for now, though we expect similar discounts to follow.

It is important to note that Skull and Bones launched on February 16. Therefore, the game has been out for just over two months, making it one of the fastest Ubisoft releases to lose its price.

The publisher shared this information in a tweet. However, it appears most fans are not as pleased as Ubisoft expected. Various fans have shared regrets after buying the game at launch for $70 or more.

Others have been shocked at how fast the game has lost value.

Ubisoft Spent Millions On This Project

Skull and Bones remains an interesting game on paper. However, the publisher’s execution has not hit the mark. The studio is moving ahead with future seasons, though it remains to be seen if support will continue as long as planned.

This instance is yet another example of why buying AAA games at launch is no longer as fruitful as it used to be. Ubisoft, in particular, has been quite willing to discount its games shortly after release.
