Dragon’s Dogma 2 Now Boasts UK’s Biggest Launch of 2024

Another Big Win For Capcom!

Story Highlight
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 has become the biggest launch from Capcom on Steam.
  • Now, it has been reported that the game is also the UK’s biggest release of this year.
  • Not even titles like Helldivers 2 or Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth could beat Capcom’s RPG.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has shown quite the disconnect between its performance on the market and reception online. While many have criticized the game for microtransactions and unacceptable performance, review scores have been solid across the board.

Additionally, it became Capcom’s biggest Steam release, reaching the top of Steam before launch. A new report states that Dragon’s Dogma 2 was also the biggest launch of 2024 in the UK.

Why it matters: This launch is made more impressive by the fact that games like Helldivers 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launched in the same year.

A new report from Christopher Dring on Twitter has revealed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 has become the biggest launch in the UK so far, accounting for both physical and digital sales.

He revealed that the game is narrowly ahead of Final Finally 7 Rebirth, leaving everything behind to secure the top spot. This is a massive achievement since Dragon’s Dogma, unlike Final Fantasy, was dormant for many years prior to this title.

When asked about Helldivers 2 and Palworld, Christopher Dring replied that proper player data for the latter does not exist in the UK. As for Helldivers 2, it was slow to gain momentum.

Initially, the game did not make nearly as big of a splash. However, its sales continued to grow as more players discovered the co-op experience and all it had to offer. Ultimately, Gamesindustry’s tracking data puts Dragon’s Dogma 2 at the top in the UK.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sales Are Still Unknown

With 200K players on Steam alone, the RPG is an undeniable hit. This success could trigger more support from Capcom in the months to follow as the publisher prepares for DLC after recent teasers.

2024 has just begun, and each new AAA release has surprised audiences in one way or another. With nine months of the year still left and games like Indiana Jones, Assassin’s Creed Red, and Star Wars Outlaws still due, the surprises are far from over.

Nonetheless, it’s great to see that Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been a success after Hideaki Itsuno’s passion for the franchise. Here’s hoping the game’s performance issues are ironed out soon, solving most of the criticism.
