Rumors are coming out of Korea that NVIDIA will reduce the number of GPUs in the GeForce RTX 40 series lineup. Team Green has notified partners of the need to reduce consumer graphics card shipments substantially.
While Nvidia has done this before, we would still advise taking the information with a grain of salt as it’s unknown which SKUs will be impacted or whether this report is true. However, Nvidia plans to limit the current GeForce RTX 40 series lineup supply without an increase in the MSRP.
According to industry insiders contacted by Quasarzone in South Korea, NVIDIA is alerting its partners about the possibility of limited shipments of its GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs as the release date of the RTX 50 “Blackwell” GPUs, which is scheduled for the year 2025, draws near.
Furthermore, the analysts also predict a significant drop in shipments of GeForce RTX 40 GPUs built on the Ada Lovelace architecture to control stock levels and make room for the upcoming gaming-based GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs.
While the GeForce RTX 40 series received a rather lukewarm response from the gaming community compared to its predecessor, it’s still generating much revenue for the company. So, it’s unclear how Nvidia will maintain its revenue stream while reducing shipment for its consumer-focused graphics cards.
One way out of this situation would be to focus entirely on producing H100, H200, and future Blackwell B200/B100 AI GPUs built on the same TSMC 4N process node, helping Nvidia recover some losses.
While Nvidia plans to keep the prices similar, we are unsure how the market will react to a decrease in shipment for the GeForce RTX 40 series. That being said, there’s a probability that Nvidia might start reducing its shipments with its high-end cards.
This would include reduced shipments on high-end GPUs like the GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 series to prepare for the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 launch. These are probably going to be the first two cards launched next year.
