Possible Battle Royale Spin-off Leaked From 2022?

Story Highlight
  • The Division franchise has enjoyed considerable success over the years, achieving numerous milestones along the way.
  • A potential new game in the Division series, titled The Division: Warzone, was recently rated in Taiwan.
  • This could be a new spin-off for the IP, though not much is officially known about the title.

Tom Clancy’s The Division has been celebrated as one of Ubisoft’s standout creations, laying the groundwork for subsequent sequels. The game achieved significant milestones for Ubisoft, boasting sales exceeding 20 million units globally.

Following the success of both The Division and its sequel, Ubisoft is now in the process of developing The Division Heartland, a standalone spin-off slated for release later this year.

However, it might be working on another potential game in the Division universe, titled The Division: Warzone, following its recent rating on the Taiwanese Game Rating Board.

Why it matters: The emergence of The Division: Warzone adds another layer of anticipation to the franchise’s lineup, suggesting a busy year ahead with multiple projects in development alongside a DLC.

The Division Warzone – Rating

The recent rating of The Division: Warzone raises intrigue about its nature, leaving speculation as to whether it might be a spin-off akin to The Division Heartland or perhaps a DLC. However, concrete details about the title remain elusive for now.

The listed platforms for The Division: Warzone include PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, as well as the PS4 and Xbox One, suggesting a similar platform availability to The Division Heartland.

The upcoming DLC for The Division 2, named Project Resolve and set for release in 2025, adds more intrigue to the potential connections with The Division: Warzone. However, any link between the two remains speculative at this point.

In 2022, Jeff Grubb discussed the development of codename Reaper. According to the report, this was a battle-royale spin-off based on The Division. Therefore, The Division: Warzone could be the aforementioned battle royale project.

The rating for the game hints at the possibility of more information being revealed soon, given that game ratings typically occur when a game is sufficiently developed for evaluation by the rating board.

So, 2024 seems very likely to be the year we get to learn a lot more about this new title.

Back in September of 2023, The Division 3 was also confirmed to be in early development, but links between The Division 3 and Warzone seem unlikely as the mainline title is likely in early development.

The Division games have been commercial successes so far, and players around the world have loved the games. Therefore, the potential for franchise expansion could lead to even more excitement for the future of one of Ubisoft’s biggest IPs.
