Suicide Squad Steam Player Count Down By 85% In Less Than 3 Weeks

Most People Have Already Moved On!

Story Highlight
  • Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was released less than three weeks ago.
  • We noted that the game has already lost 85% of its players despite being part of the live service genre.
  • If things don’t change, the game is likely to lose more players in the coming weeks.

While expectations were high from Rocksteady Studios after the Batman Arkham trilogy, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League rarely matches its predecessors from the same universe.

Soon after its launch, the game became Rocksteady Studios’ worst-rated release to date and peaked at only around 7K players in early access. This count went up for the full release, but the game is already bleeding players.

Over two weeks after its release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has lost 85% of its players.

Why it matters: Since Rocksteady Studios is known for developing single-player titles, the team’s choice to work in the live-service genre was considered a risky choice, and it does not appear to have paid off.

As seen above, less than a thousand players are currently active in the game, and it peaked at less than 2K concurrent players in the last 24 hours.

Looking at the all-time peak, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League reached around 13.5K players at launch. However, since then, the game has lost the majority of its players.

Recent releases like Helldivers 2 continue to break their concurrent player count records, yet Rocksteady Studios’ live service project is struggling to retain the few players it has left.

If this continues, the developer might not have much reason to continue supporting the game. While an extensive post-launch roadmap is already planned, the support might be cut short in the worst-case scenario.

Meanwhile, this release has led to a spike in Batman Arkham Knight’s player counts. This superhero game currently has more players, showing the dislike for the team’s live-service take on a superhero title.

Admittedly, these numbers are disappointing from a studio once considered the benchmark for teams looking to delve into superhero games. While these only account for the Steam players, we expect a similar trend on consoles.

However, all hope is not lost for the genre.

Superhero games are more popular than ever, and various big teams are currently invested in new projects. We hope to see Rocksteady Studios joining this boom, making a comeback after this disappointing release.

However, the nature of live-service games means that the developer might be unable to move on from this release before a few seasons of support.
