Hideo Kojima Delivering New Espionage Action IP!

Story Highlight
  • Hideo Kojima is finally returning to the action-espionage genre after many years.
  • During a recent livestream, he confirmed that this decision was made to address fan demand.
  • The title is still many years away from its release.

During the recent PlayStation State of Play, Hideo Kojima not only revealed a new trailer for Death Stranding 2 but also announced a new espionage action IP in collaboration with Sony named Physint.

While not much is known about the IP, the developer has stated that he decided to return to the action-espionage genre because fans had been asking him for years to make a game like Metal Gear Solid.

Why it matters: This franchise lost most of its charm after Kojima departed from Konami, with the publisher choosing to put it on hold for many years after this departure.

Hideo Kojima recently answered questions about his studio’s upcoming IPs, including Death Stranding 2 and Physint. Referring to the former, he stated that the graphics would improve before the game was released.

When he was asked about whether he would make a new Metal Gear Solid game, Hideo Kojima stated that project Physint is a title in the same genre. He asserted that many fans have asked to create a new MGS game.

In the last eight years, every day on social media, people have been asking me to create another Metal Gear.

While the demand is the main reason Hideo Kojima decided to return to the genre, he also stated that he wanted to challenge himself ever since he became independent. This goal became a part of games like Death Stranding and its upcoming sequel.

To challenge himself further, he began to work on OD, a game developed in collaboration with Xbox. His latest project is perhaps his most ambitious, bringing nearly forty years of development experience together.

Though Physint will be a game like his past projects, Hideo Kojima said that it would provide a movie-like experience, teasing something very special for his return to the action-espionage genre.

Hideo Kojima also talked about the challenges he faced recently, saying that he fell ill in 2020 during COVID-19. He also wrote a will, thinking that he would never be able to create a game again.

This experience further motivated him to create this project. While the developer has other things on his mind, he is focused on Physint because of the fan demand.

If the users desire it so much, I thought I should change my priorities a bit.

Meanwhile, Metal Gear Solid itself is set to return this year. Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is expected to debut in 2024, with recent reports claiming that a similar remake of the first game is also in the works.

This is very exciting news for all the Metal Gear Solid fans. With the original IP returning and Hideo Kojima bringing his own take on the genre through a new IP, fans can expect the best of both worlds very soon.

However, Kojima Productions’ work will take many years to arrive, so fans can anticipate the remake from Konami till then.
