Biggest Third-Party Game Pass Launch With 7 Million Players!

Story Highlights
  • Palworld has been played by over 19 million players.
  • Over 7 million players come from Xbox Game Pass, making it the biggest third-party launch on the subscription service.
  • The game has sold over 12 million units on Steam.

Palworld has been the biggest unexpected hit of the year. The game was released only two weeks ago and has also broken multiple records.

Following the title’s success, developer Pocketpair has confirmed that this game has crossed 19 million players worldwide. Over 7 million players have played the game on Game Pass, making it by far the subscription’s biggest third-party title.

Why it matters: Game Pass has offered various AAA titles from third-party studios in the past, so this is a major milestone for Pocketpair.

Palworld has reached this milestone in a matter of two weeks. Over 12 million copies have already been sold on Steam since its release, and combining these figures with the Game Pass numbers, the title has reached another impressive record.

The buzz around Palworld is still going strong. Microsoft confirms it is still the most-played game on its platform, with nearly 3 million people playing the title every day. Similar results can be seen on Steam.

Previously, it beat Counter-Strike’s all-time concurrent record. Even at the time of writing, over 800K players are busy in this mesmerizing world that captures much of the charm of classic Pokemon games.

This player count puts it just behind Counter-Strike 2 for now, despite the latter being a free title.

Recently, it was reported that Palworld struggles to achieve 60FPS on Xbox Series S/X because of optimization issues. Therefore, while thanking the fans, the developers have also announced they will continue to fix the bugs and other issues.

Fans playing on Xbox consoles should eventually enjoy the title at much smoother frame rates as the developers are working alongside Xbox to bring optimization tailored to the consoles.

Palworld has also sparked debates about Pokemon’s exclusivity. Many are surprised Nintendo isn’t looking at this game’s current success to outline a potential multiplatform push for Pokemon.

Nonetheless, it has been a treat to follow this game’s journey so far. We hope to see it reaching further heights, with similar support from the developers and Microsoft throughout the year.
