Co-Op Multiplayer Spin-off Based on Control!

Story Highlights
  • Remedy Entertainment has filed a trademark for ‘FBC: Firebreak.’
  • The IP was registered on 8 January.
  • Though nothing major has been revealed about the IP, it could be the spin-off based on Control.

Remedy Entertainment came into the spotlight last year after its excellent work on Alan Wake 2. As one of last year’s biggest releases, the game made great strides in the horror genre, creating more buzz for its future projects.

Though various projects from the team are already in development, the studio has recently trademarked a game called ‘FBC: Firebreak.’

Why it matters: A trademark could mean that an announcement is closer than expected, with more details showing up later this year.

Control

The studio’s new trademark was registered on 8 January. Listed as goods and services and not only computer gaming software, the trademark points to clothing, audio, and videos, making this property a significant project for developers.

While FBC: Firebreak is mostly a mystery, this trademark likely points to the Control spin-off. Previously known as Project Condor, this spin-off is expected to offer a multiplayer co-op take on the IP.

It was first announced in 2021, and the term ‘FBC: Firebreak’ is a clear reference to the universe of Control. FBC stands for Federal Bureau of Control, the agency where Jesse works.

Firebreak is a mysterious chasm separating areas in the game from supernatural operations. Putting two and two together, it appears Remedy Entertainment has landed on a new codename for its spin-off.

Alan Wake 2

Others have also speculated that the trademark could be related to DLC for Alan Wake 2. The Federal Bureau of Control is also a part of the game, with both being included in the greater shared Remedy universe.

However, we believe the former is more likely to be the case. The developer has several projects in its pipeline, so many of them must be further along in development.

Apart from Control and Alan Wake 2, the studio is also focusing on Max Payne. While a new entry is not happening anytime soon, Remedy Entertainment is creating remakes of the first two games, recently moving to the production phase.
