Assassin’s Creed Mirage took the series to its older formula on 5 October, stepping away from the expansive worlds and hundreds of hours of content of the RPG trilogy.
This approach was meant to appeal to older fans and provide a fresh experience for newcomers to the franchise while also fleshing out the character of Basim from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Ubisoft appears to have hit a home run with the game, boasting its biggest current-gen launch to date.
Why it matters: Ubisoft has placed all its eggs in one basket, betting on Assassin’s Creed to carry the studio through a difficult time. Therefore, the French giant has been glad to see the recent reception for its release.
Thank you all for joining us on Basim's journey in 9th Century Baghdad!
We are thrilled by the response from the community and for embracing our homage to the roots of the AC franchise. #AssassinsCreed pic.twitter.com/KnL2YxGION

Ubisoft has recently shared a list of figures for the game.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage has already been played for over 479 years. During this time, Basim has performed a total of 60 million Leaps of Faith, plunging from the heights of Ubisoft’s beautiful recreation of Baghdad.
The gaming giant has compared this release with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey & Origins, highlighting that a similar number of players have purchased the game. However, it appears to have fallen behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
Nonetheless, the game boasts Ubisoft’s biggest current-generation launch, leaving behind games like Far Cry 6, The Crew Motorfest, and more.
In our review, we scored the game 7/10 and praised its rendition of Baghdad, among other things.
While Assassin’s Creed Mirage can appear lacking in innovating at times, Ubisoft’s classic approach has drawn millions of players to the game. A lower price and a day-one release on Ubisoft Plus have also likely helped bring more players.
The release inspires confidence for upcoming games like Assassin’s Creed Red.
Next year will see Ubisoft finally delivering on the demanded Japanese setting for Assassin’s Creed, while spin-offs like a VR game will ensure fans are kept busy as they wait for this blockbuster release.
