Metal Gear Solid Master Collection PC Version Limited To 1080p

Metal Gear Solid 1 Capped At 30FPS!

Eight years after the release of Metal Gear Solid 5, Konami is revisiting the popular stealth-action franchise. The IP is poised to return in 2023 with the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection.

This collection includes the first three games and additional content. However, Konami’s latest update appears disappointing for PC users, as the publisher has just shared target resolutions and frame rates for this collection.

According to Konami, the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection will be locked at 1080p on PC.

Why it matters: The games included in the collection are decades old, allowing modern PC hardware to easily play such titles at high resolutions like 4K.

The modern standard for gaming lies in 4K resolution. Modern consoles often aim for this target, and resolutions like 1440p and 4K are common across PC builds.

Surprisingly, Konami appears to only support the lowest modern resolution target for PC, even limiting the first Metal Gear Solid game to 30FPS on the platform, while Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 can achieve 60FPS.

The PC platform, unlike consoles, is all about freedom from such restrictions. Therefore, Konami’s decision will likely be met with outrage from modern PC gamers. This is also an odd decision since emulation already enables a superior experience on PC.

The classic Metal Gear Solid games can be enjoyed through PS3 and Xbox 360 emulation at a high resolution and frame rate, making Konami’s latest offering even more disappointing.

Such decisions have led some to believe Konami has not put much effort into the collection. Previously, the publisher announced that the games would require a controller on PC, as the collection skips keyboard & mouse support.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1

Konami has also confirmed the targets for the collection on consoles.

Modern hardware like the PS5, and Xbox Series S|X will run the games at 1080p, while the Nintendo Switch will be limited to 720p. Frame rates vary based on the game, but the more capable consoles appear to be aiming for 60FPS in most cases.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 will be released on 24 October, marking Konami’s first step in reviving the iconic IP.

This collection will be followed by a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 in 2024, and the publisher appears to be teasing another collection, bringing titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 to modern hardware after over 15 years.
