Cyberpunk 2077 is dropping the massive 2.0 update tomorrow, ushering in a new era of the RPG franchise from CD Projekt Red.
The update includes revamps to systems like AI, cyberware, skill trees, and more. However, it also makes the game more intensive across all systems as the studio prepares for the release of Phantom Liberty.
CD Projekt Red has released new system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077, highlighting that the studio is dropping support for traditional hard drives this week, recommending SSDs as a baseline to enjoy the game.
Why it matters: SSDs are cheaper and more popular than ever. They also offer significant benefits over traditional hard drives, leading to the growing adoption across the gaming industry.

CD Projekt Red has reminded fans ahead of the new update that SSDs are required to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 moving forward. This reminder was accompanied by the full list of updated system requirements.
While SSDs are now mandatory, it should be noted that Cyberpunk 2077 will not stop working on traditional hard drives all of a sudden. Instead, active support for the older storage has come to an end.
This means the studio will not test the game or any future updates for hard drives.
Cyberpunk 2077 is not the first title to enforce SSDs on PC. Modern games have begun to move away from the slower medium of storage, with recent titles like Starfield requiring SSDs on PC.
In other areas, Cyberpunk 2077 asks for modest hardware for PC users. However, CPU requirements have gone up, with CD Projekt Red recommending the 8-core Intel Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 7800X3D for 1080p gameplay.
Earlier this month, a developer had already hinted at this change, informing users that Phantom Liberty would nearly utilize 100% of 8-core CPUs.
Cyberpunk 2.0 releases tomorrow and will be followed by the release of Phantom Liberty on September 26.
The critics have also shared their thoughts on Phantom Liberty recently, with a slew of positive reviews making the expansion a highly-rated release in the competitive gaming landscape of 2023.
