Mortal Kombat 1 Switch Port Gets Memed For Low Quality Graphics

Nintendo Switch Is Doing Its Best!

Mortal Kombat 1 has recently launched in early access, receiving excellent reviews for its fresh approach to the decades-old fighting game franchise.

NetherRealm Studios ditched last-generation consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One to provide a next-generation Mortal Kombat experience in 2023, leading to the best-looking game in the series to date.

However, the game has been ported to the Nintendo Switch. As expected, this version is a massive downgrade, and users on the internet have begun to share hilarious images of Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch.

Why it matters: The Nintendo Switch is a much weaker console than the base PS4 and Xbox One, let alone the latest consoles from PlayStation and Xbox.

One user recently took to Twitter, pointing out the massive downgrades to character models in the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1.

Characters like Johnny Cage look completely different than their current-generation counterparts. The comparisons highlight that Johnny Cage lacks the facial animations and detailed textures found in the current-generation versions.

On the other hand, Li Mei’s hair is poorly rendered, and her face looks completely flat, making her look like a character from older Mortal Kombat games on previous consoles. Such comparisons have led to a wave of memes on social media.

Another user compared Omni-Man’s model from the reveal trailer to J. Jonah Jameson from Spider-Man 3, released several generations ago, pointing to the inevitable downgrade for Omni-Man on the Nintendo hardware.

Such comparisons have also led to the sentiment that the Nintendo Switch version should not cost $70 due to its downgraded experience.

Not too long ago, Mortal Kombat 11 was released on the Nintendo Switch, which shipped with similar downgrades. However, Mortal Kombat 1 runs on a newer engine and brings improved visuals, leading to an even more prominent difference.

The latest comparisons have led to a new appreciation for Moral Kombat 11 on the Nintendo Switch, with users claiming that they had it far better than they realized.

Despite its drawbacks, Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch offers similar gameplay as the other versions, allowing players to take the assist-based Mortal Kombat experience on the go.

Therefore, dedicated fans may find some enjoyment in this version of the game. Rumors have also pointed to a similar port for the PS4 at some point, but no official announcement has been made.

While the Mortal Kombat 1 port for the Nintendo Switch is impressive in its own right, fans of the series have not been too impressed.

The game has spawned several memes on social media, pointing to the hilarious character models with bizarre expressions, missing textures, and poorly rendered hair, which are not a great representation of NetherRealm’s work on the current-generation version.
