No New 6v6 Maps At Launch!

Like every year, a new Call of Duty title is arriving on consoles and PC in 2023. This year Activision is releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 10, the sequel to last year’s title.

In terms of offerings, the game is packed with various modes, but the multiplayer mode is taking a different approach, offering only classic 6v6 maps for the first time in the IP’s history.

Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 ships with all 16 maps from 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Why it matters: This was rumored to be the case for a few days before the official reveal, but many found it concerning that this would be the first Call of Duty game to launch without original 6v6 maps.

In addition to the classic maps, Activision confirms that no original 6v6 maps will be part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at launch. Instead, 12 new 6v6 maps will be released during the game’s lifespan.

The classic additions include iconic maps like Rust, Highrise, Terminal, Scrapyard, and more. Sledgehammer Games has remastered each map in the current Call of Duty engine, ensuring the attention to detail these iconic maps deserve.

Similar to recent reworked map releases, Call of Duty fans should expect a few changes to the maps, but the studio promises that the authentic gameplay experience from 2009 is kept intact.

For its original offerings, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is bringing three Ground War maps and one War map with the retuning game mode from Call of Duty: World War 2.

Following the announcement of classic maps, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is shaping up to be a promising game for classic fans of the series.

Sledgehammer Games is also bringing much-requested gameplay features like red dots on mini-map, reload canceling, and map voting back to the franchise after these mechanics were removed from last year’s release.

The addition of iconic maps like Terminal and Skidrow leads to plenty of potential for incredible moments in the multiplayer, and smaller maps like Rust will also allow players to settle their differences through 1v1 matches like the old days of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
