Fable Narrative Lead Confirms Departure From Playground Games

Leaving Game Mid-Development!

Fable is one of the most anticipated first-party games from Xbox, with the gaming giant revisiting the series after a decade. Fans finally saw a first look at the game last month, and excitement has been at an all-time high since then.

Various fans have claimed that the trailer did not look like gameplay, but a developer from Playground Games assured fans that the trailer was an accurate representation of the game.

While all of the recent news about Fable has been encouraging, a key developer is leaving the project. Anna Megill has announced that she is leaving Playground Games in August.

Why it matters: Anna Megill joined the studio in February 2021. She was the Lead Writer for Fable, and her departure could potentially leave the studio in a challenging situation.

Announcing her departure, she said:

“Working on Fable was a dream come true for me, and it’s wrenching to leave it behind.”

She further claimed that Playground Games has an incredible team working on the title. According to Anna Megill, fans should not worry, as Fable will be in good hands after she leaves the studio.

While this could have negative implications for the game, fans should note Fable is far from release. The game is expected to arrive in 2025, so the studio has plenty of time to ensure it meets the industry’s high expectations.

Following the announcement, fans were quick to assume that something may be wrong with Fable. However, the developer appears to be looking for new opportunities in different games.

Previously, various Xbox games like Halo Infinite have suffered from management issues. As such, some concern from the fans is understandable. However, it remains to be seen if Playground Games’ upcoming release will face similar issues.

Anna Megill also clarified that she had reached a certain point where she wanted to jump off the project.

Fable is a reboot of one of the most popular Xbox franchises from 2004. The game was announced in 2020 and recently made an appearance at the Xbox Game Showcase. Fans can expect more footage from the title in the coming months.
