Metal Gear Solid 4 Reportedly Ran Smoothly On The Xbox 360

Abandoned Because It Needed Multiple Discs On Xbox 360!

Metal Gear Solid 4 is one of the most notable entries in Hideo Kojima’s iconic franchise. Exclusive to the PlayStation 3, the game received positive reception and garnered fans from all around the world. Since the game was exclusive to PlayStation, Xbox fans were disappointed at missing out.

However, a new report reveals more details on the game’s exclusivity. The report states the game was made exclusive because of Xbox 360’s disc format. It also reveals that Metal Gear Solid 4 already had a port for Xbox 360.

Why it matters: Metal Gear Solid 4 was among the earliest exclusives for the PS3. The game was considered a great addition to the PS3’s library of exclusives.

The Assistant Producer, Ryan Payton, stated:

“Metal Gear Solid 4 Was Running Beautifully And Smoothly On An Xbox 360.”

Ryan Payton also revealed that there was no exclusivity deal for the game. Instead, the disc format became the main factor behind PlayStation 3 exclusivity.

The PlayStation 3 supported a Blu-Ray drive, while the Xbox 360 came with a traditional DVD drive. The former could hold up to 54GB, but the latter could only hold up to 8.3GB of data.

Therefore, Metal Gear Solid 4 on the Xbox 360 would have needed multiple discs, and this was something Konami was not fond of.

During the last few years of the Xbox 360, games like GTA 5 were released on multiple discs. Had Konami taken a similar approach, Metal Gear Solid 4 may have been playable on recent consoles via backward compatibility.

Currently, the game is stuck on PlayStation 3. Since Sony’s console came with a complex architecture, recent PlayStation consoles do not offer a solution for native backward compatibility.

However, Metal Gear Solid is now coming back with a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. This game will be available on all platforms. Konami has also hinted at a port for Metal Gear Solid 4, so fans can look forward to plenty of Metal Gear Solid content.
