The Last of Us Part 2 took a different approach than the first game. It introduced Abby, a new playable character. The story was split into different sections for both characters, shifting between the perspective of Ellie and Abby.

The game aimed to tackle many themes about subjects like hatred and the cycle of revenge. In terms of gameplay, The Last of Us Part 2 introduced various new additions that made the gameplay more satisfying.

The animations were significantly improved, and Naughty Dog added the option to go prone for stealth segments. Additional changes included the option to jump at any point and bigger environments for more freedom during enemy engagements.

All of this meant The Last of Us Part 2 was a critical success. It received several 10/10 scores and currently stands at a score of 93/100 on Metacritic. The game also secured the Game of The Year award in 2020, beating competitors like Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

While The Last of Us Part 2 was initially supposed to launch with a multiplayer mode, this was later delayed and became a much larger project. The mode is expected to release as a stand-alone multiplayer title but reports claim that the project is in a tough spot.

Following the game’s release, Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Part 1. This was a remake of the first game, and it came with several gameplay improvements from Part 2. Rumors also claim that Naughty Dog is already busy with the third Last of Us title.
