The last few weeks delivered several new announcements for gamers worldwide. With showcases from Summer Game Fest, Xbox, and PlayStation, the gaming industry had something for nearly everyone.
Each showcase was packed with gameplay and trailers for upcoming titles. Xbox showed many anticipated first-party games like Fable and Avowed, while PlayStation highlighted games like Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 16.
Following these three events, a report states that the PlayStation Showcase gathered the most views.
Why it matters: June was the month of E3 for the gaming industry. However, E3 was canceled this year, but events like the PlayStation Showcase made up for the lack of E3 conferences.
While Xbox is leading in June by accumulating around 2.3 million concurrent viewers at the conference’s peak, PlayStation led the charts this year till now, reaching 2.6 million concurrent viewers.
While PlayStation’s event was criticized for lacking major first-party games, the brand’s popularity attracted millions of viewers. The gaming giant also used the opportunity to announce new hardware like Project Q.
On the other hand, the Xbox Showcase featured various games, but Starfield became the highlight for audiences. Microsoft and Bethesda presented nearly an hour of content for the game, likely leading to millions of viewers tuning in.
Apart from the major gaming giants, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest reached 2 million concurrent viewers, and Ubisoft Forward trailed with 1.1 million concurrent viewers. The former featured big reveals like gameplay for Mortal Kombat 1 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
As such, the following led the summer events:
- PlayStation Showcase 2.6 million peak concurrent viewers
- Xbox Showcase 2.3 million peak concurrent viewers
- Summer Game Fest 2 million peak concurrent viewers
The latest Xbox Showcase was considered a comeback for the gaming giant. While Xbox has struggled in previous years, this year’s event fired on all cylinders. Following the event, Starfield also became the best-selling title on Steam.
Similarly, PlayStation’s Spider-Man 2 became a crowd pleaser for millions of fans. Pre-orders for the game went live recently, and the most expensive edition was sold out within just a few minutes.
