Doom Came Back 7 Years Ago!

The Doom franchise is iconic in the first-person shooter genre. Being one of the oldest titles in the genre, many fans had previously longed for a modern take on the series.

This demand was addressed in 2016 with a new title that brought the franchise back to popularity. Doom was released on this day seven years ago, and it remains one of the best entries in the franchise to this day.

Why it matters: Doom focused on the fast-paced FPS gameplay fans had loved from the classic title. It also featured plenty of gore and extra content to keep fans engaged.

Fans quickly grew to enjoy the game. It sold nearly a million copies during its first month and received highly positive reviews across the board.

Doom also introduced glory kills, a mechanic that allowed for satisfying executions without disrupting the flow of gameplay. This, combined with the satisfying gunplay, meant that fans could enjoy the game at a swift pace.

Following the game’s success, the developers released Doom Eternal. The sequel took everything that made the original great and expanded upon it with new mechanics for traversal and combat.

Seven years after its release, Doom can be found for very low prices on sales across all platforms. The game is also included in Xbox Game Pass, and it remains a first-person shooter worth playing even to this day.
