Ubisoft has made great games like the Assassin’s Creed franchise, the Watch Dogs series, and the Far Cry series. But 2023 might not be the year for Ubisoft as the company has faced many problems.
Fans have not seen much from Ubisoft recently, and now it has laid off 60 employees from North Carolina and the UK.
Why it matters: In January, Ubisoft was reportedly ridiculed by companies for proposing an acquisition, and it canceled 3 unannounced games due to worsening economic conditions. Recently it was also reported that Ubisoft had canceled Splinter Cell Battle Royale.
I (and about 60 other amazing people) were laid off today with no notice. I'm divorced, living alone with a mortgage, and have a daughter who I love and support, so if any of you have any leads, please reach out. Thank you so much. <3

The 60 employees were laid off without notice, which seems concerning. Ubisoft said in a statement:
“We estimate that, due to organizational changes, 60 team members from our offices in Cary, North Carolina and Newcastle could be impacted.”
The layoffs are focused on the company’s customer service department, and they are made so it could focus more on offering constant support to the players. The employees have revealed on Twitter that they were unprepared for the situation since it happened without notice.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is among the biggest games from Ubisoft in 2023. However, reports have hinted at it being potentially delayed beyond the initial August 2023 release target.
Games like Skull and Bones have faced similar delays. This title was first announced in 2018 but was recently delayed to 2023 or even 2024. As such, it is clear that Ubisoft is struggling, but the developer is looking to make a strong return in the gaming industry.
However, not everything is chaotic at Ubisoft as the company is working on The Division: Heartland while also confirming long-term support for the FPS, XDefiant. Ubisoft aims to bring massive content for XDefiant on launch, and the company has said more will be added in the future via updates.
Aside from that, what do you think of Ubisoft laying off 60 employees without any notice? Do you think Ubisoft has been off their game lately?
Thank you! Please share your positive feedback. 🔋
