Activision CEO: Sony Trying To Sabotage Activision Blizzard Deal

Sony Sabotaging The Deal?

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has recently expressed his thoughts on the current progress of the Activision Blizzard acquisition. In an interview with Financial Times, Bobby Kotick claims Sony is trying to sabotage the acquisition.

Bobby Kotick also believes that Microsoft will continue to support PlayStation consoles after the acquisition has been completed. He stated:

“The whole idea that we are not going to support a playstation or that microsoft would not support the playstation, it is absurd.”

“I think this is all Sony just trying to sabotage the transaction.”

Previously, Activision and Call of Duty have been on excellent terms. The two gaming giants have had an exclusivity deal on Call of Duty since 2015 with Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. This has included exclusive content like map packs, game modes, and more over the years.

PlayStation has also given away multiple Call of Duty games with the PS Plus monthly games. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies Chronicles Edition was also included in the PS Plus Collection.

However, recent events appear to have damaged this long-running relationship. Bobby Kotick recently stated that Sony stopped returning calls, questioning Activision’s value to the gaming giant. He further explained that Activision and PlayStation would typically discuss future deals and partnerships at this time of the year. He said:

“Sony’s not on the phone to us. In fact, they’re not returning our phone calls. I don’t know that we’re as valuable as maybe they’ve represented to the regulators.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that Bobby Kottick would leave his position as the Activision CEO after Microsoft’s acquisition. However, sources from Fox Business claim that he will continue to lead Activision if the deal fails.

Bobby Kotick was under criticism from Activision employees due to the toxic work culture at the company. Despite these issues, reports from April 2022 claim that Bobby Kottick had no plans to resign.

The CEO is still hopeful for the future of Activision and Microsoft. Recently, the CMA’s provisional findings concluded against Microsoft, and Sony continues to oppose the deal. However, analysts like Michael Pachter believe the deal is nearing completion, and Activision’s CEO favors such a scenario.
