Nintendo Switch Surpasses PS4 To Become 3rd Best Selling Console

Nintendo Switch Beats PS4!

The Nintendo Switch has been a phenomenal release for the gaming giant. With its evolutionary hybrid design and an excellent library of games, Nintendo has managed to keep the player base healthy and growing steadily.

Released in 2017, the Nintendo Switch quickly caught up to the much older PlayStation 4. Until recently, the console was within a few million units of the PS4 and has reached another milestone.

The recent earnings report revealed that the Nintendo Switch had outsold the PS4, achieving over 122.55 million sold units

The console sold 8.23 million units last quarter to reach the figure. This also puts the Nintendo Switch ahead of previous Nintendo handhelds like the Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

However, the console is still trailing behind Nintendo DS, which sells over 154 million units. Overall, Nintendo’s latest console is now the third-best-selling console of all time.

Nintendo has released three significant models of the Switch throughout its lifespan. The original model started at $299.99, while a cheaper Switch Lite was later introduced at $199.99. This has likely helped the console maintain impressive sales numbers. Finally, Nintendo also introduced the OLED model at $349.99 in 2021.

Games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continue to top sales charts for Nintendo, with the latter crossing over 50 million units sold. A strong first-party line-up has helped Nintendo skip ahead of the competition.

Launched in November 2022, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have also been selling exceptionally well. Both games have sold over 20 million units, showing that the Nintendo Switch still has much to offer in its lifecycle.

The coming months are an exciting time for Nintendo Switch owners. Highly anticipated games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom should ensure that Nintendo can provide their customers with another great year of content.
