Justin Roiland is well known for his work on Rick and Morty. The co-creator has recently worked on High on Life, and the game has been a massive hit on Steam and Xbox Game Pass.
Justin Roiland founded Squanch Games, and the studio has previously worked on various VR games before High on Life. Speaking on a recent podcast with Larry Hryb, he talked about his motivation to make VR games.
While talking about the subject, Justin also claimed that he would like to work on more VR games.
He stated that VR Gaming had a lot of potential for new ideas in the genre, and it was an exciting concept for Squanch Games. Talking about future games, he said,
“There are still so many game ideas that I have that have not been done by anybody that I would love, if either we’re going to make them, maybe, I don’t know, if I can convince the team to go back to VR.”
Squanch Games has recently worked on VR titles like Trover Saves the Universe. Much like High on Life, the team focused on comedic aspects while utilizing VR technology for an immersive experience.
Trover Saves the Universe went on to win the Best VR/AR Game at The Game Awards 2019. The game was available on platforms like PlayStation VR and Oculus Quest, but the developer shifted focus away from VR technology for the latest release.
Despite High on Life’s success, Justin would like to revisit the VR gaming genre. Therefore, fans should not be surprised if the developer’s next game is aimed at VR audiences.
The hype for VR gaming has started to die down a bit in recent years, but Sony’s PS VR 2 is right around the corner. This could capture the audience’s interest in the genre again and present a unique opportunity for developers looking to give the genre a shot.
High on Life continues to do well, and millions of players across all platforms have played the game. Squanch Games has already seen a lot of success with VR games, and Justin Roiland’s interest in returning to the genre could bring a lot of exciting possibilities for the developer’s next title.
