STALKER 2 Dev Reveals No Current Plans For A PS5 Port

"Fully Focused On Supporting PC And Xbox Series X/S Versions"

Story Highlight
  • Stalker 2 was released on Xbox Series S|X and PC.
  • So, PS5 fans have missed out on one of the highly anticipated games of 2024.
  • Unfortunately, as per GSC Game World’s game director, there is currently no plan to port the game on PlayStation 5.

Stalker 2 is arguably one of the most successful releases of this year. The game was highly anticipated by the fandom, and thanks to that, it was welcomed with massive numbers of players on Steam.

The latest entry in the Stalker franchise was also available on Xbox Game Pass, and it managed to recoup its development in less than a month. While it is unclear how many copies it has sold by now, it sold over 1 million in less than 48 hours, which is pretty impressive.

Given the game’s success on Xbox and PC, PlayStation fans have been wondering if the game will ever be released on their preferred console. Unfortunately, there is bad news for them as, for now, the developer has no plans of porting Stalker 2 to PS5.

Why it matters: Stalker 2‘s performance on PC and Xbox, along with its high popularity, can ensure that the title will work really well on the PlayStation 5.

In an interview with Tech4Gamers, we asked Ievgen Grygorovych, the Game Director at GSC Game World, “Given the positive previews of Stalker 2, many fans on platforms other than Xbox and PC are interested in the game. Do you have plans to port it to other consoles?” He said that the developer is only focused on the PC and Xbox ports

Following this, we asked the game director, “There’s a lot of talk about the game’s three-month timed exclusivity with Xbox. Can you comment on that? If that’s true, would you be willing to enhance Stalker 2 for PS5 Pro?” However, he refused to comment on the former and reiterated the previous response for the latter.

We do not comment on leaks, rumors, or speculations. Again, the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 are the only ones we have developed and are supporting.

This confirms that the developer is not working on a PS5 port, which many fans might be disappointed to hear. However, it isn’t unlikely for it to change its mind in the future. Maksym Krippa, the owner of GSC Game World, recently said that they can exceed $1 billion with Stalker 2.

So, in order to cross this barrier, the developer might need to port Stalker 2 to PS5.

What do you think about the Game Director’s comment on the PlayStation 5 port? Have you played the game yet, or are you the Team Sony? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.
