Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Is In Conception Phase

Still Alive But Won't Be At Ubisoft Forward On June 12!

Before Assassin’s Creed became a juggernaut for Ubisoft, Prince of Persia was among its most successful franchises. Ubisoft announced a remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time in 2020, 17 years after the original game, but it was subject to troubled development.

Though many were guessing that Ubisoft may have canceled the game, it seems this is not the case, as Ubisoft has finally confirmed that the remake is very much alive. The game has seen a shift in development and is currently in the conception phase.

Why it matters: Prince of Persia is a classic franchise from Ubisoft. Due to the nostalgia and love for the series, a proper remake is almost guaranteed to be a huge success.

Ubisoft shared a new update regarding Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake, where the company talked about the game’s current state with the Producer and Director. While talking about the development, the Producer of the game, Jean-Francois Naud, stated:

“In terms of the development stage, we’re in conception right now. “

The developer further elaborated that the team is trying different prototypes and testing elements for the game.

As such, it will not be present at Ubisoft Forward 2023. Previously, the remake received criticism for its visuals and trailer footage. Since then, Ubisoft has shifted development to Ubisoft Montreal.

When asked why the team is going for a remake instead of a remaster, the Director stated that the game is nearly two decades old. The technology and the mindset of gamers and developers have evolved, and a remake would allow the team to modernize the classic release.

The developers also confirmed that they do not have any plan as of right now to remake any other game from the franchise.

For fans who were worried about a potential cancellation, this is exciting news. Ubisoft recently canceled the development of many games, with the company going through a challenging period. However, it is great to see them sticking with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake.
