Monster Hunter Wilds is the upcoming installment in Capcom’s critically acclaimed franchise. Fans have eagerly waited for the game since its first trailer dropped. Today, its open beta launched to an incredible 500K concurrent players on Steam.

Why it matters: Besides being critically acclaimed, the game’s predecessor, Monster Hunter: World, is Capcom’s best-selling game of all time. So, naturally, expectations from Monster Hunter Wilds are really up there.

Today, Capcom launched the open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds and it garnered an astounding 463K concurrent players. The overall reviews are also mostly positive with many praising the game for feeling fresh and action-packed. 

However, the bad news for console players is that the title will be locked at 30 FPS for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Capcom hasn’t yet revealed if Monster Hunter Wilds will receive a PS5 Pro Enhanced version in the future.

The beta is currently live on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. It runs from now till November 4th and includes character creation, a story trial, a Doshaguma Hunt, and even crossplay availability. 

Capcom will be delighted with the numbers and hope they translate well into the full launch. The game comes out on February 28, 2025, for all announced platforms. Unfortunately, it won’t be released on the Switch, as the handheld is too weak. But maybe a port is planned for later down the line with the launch of Switch 2.
