Ghost of Tsushima Film Adaptation Script Now Completed

Ghost of Tsushima Movie Making Progress!

Last year, PlayStation confirmed that it had multiple film and TV projects in development. Among these projects, The Last of Us made a major name for itself with overwhelmingly positive responses. Future projects include adaptations for the likes of Ghost of Tsushima and God of War.

In the former’s case, director Chad Stahelski has provided an encouraging update recently. Speaking to Screenrant, he confirmed that the script for Ghost of Tsushima has been completed.

Why it matters: Because of the game’s cinematic nature, many fans have been eagerly awaiting a faithful adaptation that can capture the IP’s beauty on the big screen, so this milestone is encouraging for the fans.

Ghost of Tsushima

The director is currently busy with multiple projects. However, among these, Ghost of Tsushima and Highlander are the most important for him. When asked about his progress with the PlayStation IP, Chad Stahelski replied:

“We have a script, we’re very close to getting our sh*t together.”

Unfortunately, the studio is still standing by amid the current strikes, which also threatened to disrupt the gaming industry last month.

Typically, a finished script is just the first part of a full-length film or movie. Therefore, Chad Stahelski has crossed the first major hurdle, but there is much work left to be done.

Between casting actors, shooting, and editing, Ghost of Tsushima is still very much a work in progress. Therefore, the direction was unable to provide a rough timeline for this adaptation.

However, he can guarantee a level of faithfulness rarely seen in gaming adaptations. Having worked on the John Wick franchise, Chad Stahelski is no stranger to cinematic shots, stylish scenes, and jaw-dropping moments.

He is bringing this passion to Ghost of Tsushima, further enhanced by his admiration of Akira Kurosawa’s work. The Japanese filmmaker has already been referenced in the PlayStation game, so Chad Stahelski aims to highlight this inspiration on the big screen.

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima has already paid homage to Akira Kurosawa’s expertly crafted cinematic visuals through a black and white color mode dubbed the ‘Kurosawa Mode.

With both the source material and the director being very open about their respect for Akira Kurosawa’s work, we are extremely excited to see Chad Stahelski’s take on this franchise.

The franchise is also expected to return with a new entry by 2025, as hinted by job listings from Sucker Punch Productions. Therefore, a future with a new game and an adaptation on the big screen coming out close to each other sounds very promising.
