PlayStation Secretly Signed Exclusivity Deal!

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Wukong has sold 10 million units, but the game isn’t available on Xbox Series S|X.
  • It was delayed on Xbox a few months back, but Game Science did not say anything about an exclusivity deal.
  • A new report indicates that PlayStation caused the delay.

Black Myth: Wukong has been the talk of the town for more than a week at this point. Following a record-breaking launch on Steam, this action RPG went on to win over nearly everyone in the industry.

However, Xbox gamers have been unable to experience Sun Wukong’s journey due to a sudden delay announced a few months back. New reports on the matter indicate that PlayStation caused this delay.

Why it matters: Black Myth: Wukong has sold more than 10 million units in three days. Had it been available on Xbox, the gaming giant’s consoles would have benefited from additional sales in the large Chinese gaming market.

As reported by Paul Tassi, sources have stated that PlayStation signed an exclusivity deal for Black Myth: Wukong. He also states that no technical issue has prevented the game from releasing on Xbox.

For the unaware, Paul Tassi is a prominent Forbes journalist. He previously reported on the matter and provided an update after a vague statement from Xbox suggested that an exclusivity deal was at play. As such, he likely has reliable sources.

What’s interesting here is that PlayStation has not shown much evidence of any exclusivity deal. Game Science has also cited technical problems for the delay, creating a confusing situation.

Creating further confusion, another prominent insider recently pointed to a memory leak issue as the main problem with the Xbox Series S|X versions of Black Myth: Wukong. Therefore, it may be best to wait for further information at this point.

Going by Paul Tassi’s source, PlayStation may have secured exclusivity to expand its reach to the Chinese region. Indeed, the gaming giant saw a massive sales surge in China because of this exclusivity.

Since this report could create unnecessary controversy for both PlayStation and Game Science, we await an official response from the developer soon. We advise fans to do the same.
