Wolfenstein 3 Potentially In Development!

MachineGames revived the classic Wolfenstein franchise in 2014 with a brand-new entry. Wolfenstein: The New Order told the story of William Blazkowicz as he survived in a fictional setting run by Nazis after World War 2.

This game was followed up with a sequel four years later, and the franchise has not been revisited since Wolfenstein: Youngblood in 2019. With MachineGames now working on an all-new Indiana Jones, fans have been curious about the future of the Wolfenstein franchise.

While nothing has been confirmed so far, we spotted that MachineGames is hiring for a Senior Animator and the job listing may be hinting at Wolfenstein 3.

One of the qualifications required for the position asks for experience in first-person games. The listing states:

“Passion for video games and especially for first-person immersive games.”

Therefore, MachineGames appears to be working on a first-person game. Indiana Jones is better suited to a third-person perspective since the character’s stories are more about exploration and adventures that would not be best suited to a first-person camera perspective.

Looking at the preferred skills, the developer asks for familiarity with MachineGames’ titles. Over the last decade, the studio has been mostly limited to working on the Wolfenstein franchise.

This further suggests that the studio may be hiring for Wolfenstein 3. Additionally, the listing also states:

“Experience animating creatures or quadruped characters.”

The Wolfenstein franchise features quadruped creatures that players have to face. This includes creatures like the Panzerhund which are also playable in certain sections of the game.

Since the job listing asks for experience with quadruped animation and first-person perspective, it appears to strongly suggest that Wolfenstein 3 is currently being worked on.

Recently, a LinkedIn profile revealed that MachineGames has an unannounced project in development alongside Indiana Jones. While nothing is known about this unannounced project, the job listing above could mean that a new Wolfenstein game is on the horizon.

Many also believe MachineGames could be working on a Quake title. However, with id Software leading development on Quake Champions, it seems unlikely that MachineGames would be returning to the franchise so soon.

The franchise has always had a unique setting, satisfying FPS gameplay, and an interesting narrative. With new hardware and several years of anticipation, Wolfenstein 3 holds great potential to bring the franchise back to the attention of gaming audiences worldwide.

The next Xbox Games Showcase is also right around the corner, and it would serve as the perfect opportunity to make a huge announcement for the Wolfenstein franchise.
