The Last of Us Part 2 Remaster Reportedly Being Worked On

Potentially Working On Native PS5 Version!

The Last of Us Part 2 was released in 2020, and the game recently turned three. Following the success of The Last of Us Tv show, the series has found a new audience of fans worldwide.

Naughty Dog released The Last of Us Part 1 last year, and a PC port was released earlier this year. However, previous rumors had also claimed that a remaster or Director’s Cut version of The Last of Us Part 2 was in development.

While no official confirmation has been made, a recent interview with the game’s composer hints at a new version of the game.

Why it matters: The Last of Us Part 2 did not receive a significant upgrade for the PS5. It can be played at 60FPS but runs at settings based on the PS4 Pro version.

During a recent interview with a Spanish channel, The Last of Us Part 2 composer, Gustavo Santaolalla, hinted at a potential remaster of The Last of Us Part 2.

During the interview, the composer’s cameo from the game was discussed. Players can go to the composer and enjoy his music. Adding to the discussion, Gustavo Santaolalla said:

“In the new editions (of The Last Of Us Part 2), you can make me play certain themes.”

Since the interview was conducted in Spanish, the exact translation may be slightly different, but the composer mentioned a new edition of the game.

Following the statement, the composer quickly said he could not share more information. However, a new version of the game has been rumored for a while. Last year, a reliable leaker claimed that a Director’s Cut for the game was in development.

A new version would allow Naughty Dog to enhance the game and introduce up to 4K resolution. The Last of Us Part 2 was already one of the best-looking games last generation, and a new version would enhance its visuals even further.

Like the first game, Naughty Dog could also be preparing for another PC port. As such, this would be a great opportunity to improve the game on PS5.

It is also possible that the composer may have referred to The Last of Us Part 3, which has been rumored to be in development. However, when he made the statement, Gustavo Santaolalla was talking about the previous game.

Nonetheless, the game is over three years old, and an announcement will likely be made soon if a new edition is in development. In addition to Naughty Dog’s latest title, PlayStation is rumored to be working on a remaster for Horizon Zero Dawn.
