Creating New Team For The Division 3!

The Division has become a flagship Ubisoft IP since its debut in 2016. Since the first game, Ubisoft has released a sequel and another spin-off, The Division Heartland, is scheduled to launch in 2023.

While there was no information about the third mainline title, Ubisoft has just confirmed the existence of a new game for the series. The Division 3 has begun development by a new team at the studio.

Why it matters: The Division 2 sold over 10 million copies, and the entire franchise has accumulated over 40 million players to date, making it a massive IP.

This announcement was made alongside the recent appointment of Julian Gerighty as the executive producer for The Division IP. The developer has worked on both previous games in the franchise and has now been appointed to work on the third game.

Confirming its plans, Ubisoft wrote:

“A core focus of Gerighty’s is to build a team for Tom Clancy’s The Division 3.”

Julian Gerighty also shared his excitement to be working again on the franchise. The developer believes the IP is still in its infancy and presents several opportunities to explore new ideas.

Since the developer is currently busy with Star Wars Outlaws, The Division 3 will not receive much focus anytime soon. However, Julian Gerighty hopes to ensure that his next project maintains the high bar of quality the franchise is known for.

The Division 2

In addition to a new Star Wars game and the upcoming entry in The Division IP, Massive Entertainment has been working on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora in 2023.

The studio’s latest release is coming on December 7, bringing the freedom of an open world to the popular universe of the Avatar franchise.

Following the announcement, Massive Entertainment has a lot of projects on its plate. Therefore, The Division 3 is unlikely to see the light of day in the next few years. Meanwhile, fans can look forward to another year of support for The Division 2.
