Following Underwhelming Performance of Callisto Protocol!

Story Highlights
  • Striking Distance Studios is working on a new unannounced game.
  • It will be based on Unreal Engine 5.
  • The studio’s last game, The Callisto Protocol, couldn’t attract a lot of positivity.

A new job listing suggests that the developer behind The Callisto Protocol, Striking Distance Studios, is working on a brand new IP. The game is currently unannounced, and all we know from the listing is that it utilizes Unreal Engine 5.

Why it matters: Striking Distance Studios showed so much potential with The Callisto Protocol, but the final product was quite underwhelming. It will be fascinating to see what this team can come up with now.

Following The Callisto Protocol’s failure, Glen Scofield and various other developers left the studio last year.

Therefore, the team is unlikely to be continuing this franchise, though the job listing does not go into too many details. Striking Distance Studios is looking to hire developers for:

“A brand new unannounced UE5 title.”

In 2022, Striking Distance Studios was praised for its ability to harness Unreal Engine 4, using the engine for breathtaking visuals. For all its faults, The Callisto Protocol’s visuals were exemplary.

The studio has now made the jump to the latest iteration of the engine, giving it access to tools like Lumen and Nanite for the unannounced title. This job listing teases mind-blowing animations, so it seems the developer’s strengths in presentation will carry over to its latest project.

Still, Striking Distance Studios’ last release was quite disappointing overall. The game was considered a financial failure overall, with negative reviews and shockingly poor performance on PC.

Compared to Dead Space, this game failed to craft its own legacy.

However, The Callisto Protocol had a few shining moments, too. Using the lessons learned from this failure and the team’s talents, Striking Distance Studios could bounce back with its next game.
