In the game, seeing something so beautiful spread across the environment or growing out of twisted and mangled bodies is truly disturbing. It showcases that beauty can often quickly turn into something horrifying. In my opinion, adding this flower to the game was a beautiful touch, adding to the overall horror vibe and beauty.

Japanese Folklore

Japan has folklore that tends to get under your skin. It is filled with spirits, curses, and ghostly legends. Silent Hill expands into this, weaving stories about ancestral guilt, superstition, and supernatural forces beyond human control.

The game will also likely make use of Yokai legends. Yokais are basically mythical creatures and monsters found in Japanese folklore. There are references in the game to creatures such as Rokurokubi (stretched head/detached head yokai), the slit mouthed woman (Kuchisake-Onna), and Ayakakashi (yokai that appears near water’s surface). Whether the game will use direct adaptation or change it up a bit is yet to be seen.

Sound, Space, and Silence

The atmosphere of Silent Hill f goes a step beyond just visuals. Traditional Japanese architecture, with its open layouts and thin walls, creates a feeling of vulnerability in the player. The eerie silence in this setting does not feel comfortable but is rather oppressive. Every creak on the wooden flooring and the whisper of wind heightens tension.

This spatial setting, alongside Akira Yamaoka’s chilling sound direction, ensures that even emptiness itself becomes a source of horror. Just like when you’re home alone and every small sound suddenly seems scary, Silent Hill f also uses the same feeling of loneliness. All of these factors allow for the game to be more appealing.

Silent Hill f is more than just a change of setting; it’s a cultural reimagining of what horror can be. What will make the game truly terrifying is how it will create horror from the simplest of things. The game will quite literally scare the life out of you, both subtly and a hits you in the face kind of way.
