PS5 Beats Nintendo Switch Sales In Japan For The Second Week In A Row

PS5 Wins In Japan Again!

Last week, the PS5 finally ended Nintendo’s long reign as the weekly best-selling console in Japan. With availability issues finally sorted out and demand for the console showing no signs of slowing down, the PS5 saw massive success in Japan.

Continuing this success, the console has once again managed to outperform the Nintendo Switch. As reported by Famitsu, PS5 has outsold Nintendo Switch in Japan for the second week in a row.

Looking at the numbers, the Nintendo Switch sold 55,736 consoles last week. While Nintendo continues to excel in the market, Sony’s PS5 has sold 93,026 consoles in the same period, leading by a significant margin in this instance.

It should also be noted that all models of the Nintendo Switch are cheaper than the least expensive PS5. Consoles like the Nintendo Switch Lite come at less than half the price of the Digital Edition PS5, the latter of which has also previously seen a price hike in Japan

The Nintendo Switch is also nearing the end of its lifecycle, making the current numbers an impressive achievement. Although the PS5 is far from new, restricted supply has meant that recent months have served as a soft reboot for the PS5 generation, leading to incredible sales for Sony.

Both consoles have a plethora of exciting titles coming out in 2022. Nintendo is heading into 2023 with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, which is Nintendo’s first $70 game. Sony has offerings like Final Fantasy 16 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for gaming audiences, with the latter scheduled for Fall 2023.

Microsoft has also done reasonably well, with the more affordable Xbox Series S selling 14,277 units for the gaming giant. Xbox Series X only sold 367 consoles, but this is still a much better result than last week, where the PS4 outsold both Xbox Series S|X consoles.

The PS5 has crossed 30 million sales worldwide. However, if these numbers are anything to go by, Sony’s latest console is just getting started.

Sony has also started a worldwide advertising campaign to celebrate the availability of the PlayStation console. Fans are hoping that a State of Play or Showcase will follow soon to reveal the next exciting line-up of games for the PS5.
