Over 38.4 Million Consoles Sold!

Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been a tremendous success, setting a new world record for most console units shipped during the Q1 period.

Just between January, February, and March, around 6.3 million units of the PlayStation 5 have been shipped worldwide, the most by any console in history.

PlayStation 5 also sold more than 30 Million units worldwide in January, with the latest report adding up to 38.4 Million sales.

The PlayStation 5 was the most-sold console in the US in the first two months of 2023. Around 533,000 units were sold alone in the US in February.

After 3 years of its launch, the console shortage is finally over, and PlayStation 5 is finally available in retail stores for users to buy. The end of the shortage and availability of the console have played a major part in the increase in sales.

The console sales are likely to increase as two of PlayStation’s popular exclusives are yet to be released later this year, namely Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 16. If these sales numbers remain constant, the PlayStation 5 will surpass the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales soon.

Following the success of PlayStation 5, Sony has at least two more PlayStation consoles planned for release: a handheld PlayStation console that will stream games via the cloud and a more powerful PlayStation 5 Pro.

Both of these consoles are reportedly being released sometime next year. We hope to see some sort of announcement soon, most probably at the upcoming PlayStation Showcase.
