Also Includes Animation!

PlayStation Productions was first formed in 2019 for the sole purpose of bringing PlayStation IPs to the big screen. Since then, PlayStation Studios has produced films such as the live-action version of Uncharted and Tv shows like The Last of Us.

In the latest official PlayStation podcast, the head of PlayStation Productions stated that the studio is currently working on 10 Tv shows and movies, including animated projects. He said:

“So, we’ve got 10 projects in various stages of development, which is really exciting. Film, television, and a little bit of animation as well.”

PlayStation God of War TV Show

The studio initially started as a 10-project slate, out of which 2 projects have already been released, namely Uncharted and The Last of Us. This leaves us with a few unannounced projects, out of which at least one will be an animated project.

Projects like Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, God of War, and Horizon are still in development, while Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo are in post-production and expected to be released later this year.

The animated project mentioned might be related to Gravity Rush, but this is speculation at this point, and the project may still be very early in production, similar to other PlayStation movies and Tv shows.

In a previous interview, the director of Uncharted hinted at a Jak and Daxter adaptation. Other PlayStation IPs like Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper would also lend themselves well to an animated movie or Tv show format.

Bungie has also expressed their interest in bringing the Destiny universe outside of the games. After their acquisition by PlayStation, it may be possible that work on a Destiny project is underway, whether it be animated or live-action.

The Last of Us Tv show, the latest project by PlayStation Studios, was a resounding success, becoming the second-highest-rated HBO show in almost a dozen years.

In recent years, gaming adaptations on the big screen and streaming services have garnered popularity. Successful movies like Super Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Detective Pikachu have had a significant impact on the film industry.

What do you think Sony’s next project will be? Which game would you like to see on the big screen next?
