- Insiders claim Microsoft is making changes to Game Pass tiers due to Call of Duty.
- The introduction of Call of Duty to the subscription service will surely invite a lot of new players.
- The official announcement could be made at the Xbox Showcase scheduled for June 9.
News about Call of Duty coming to Game Pass has been circulating for a while now. A previous report also seemed to confirm we’d be seeing day 1 releases of future games in the franchise as well. Now, Xbox shaking up Game Pass tiers and it’s claimed it’s due to Call of Duty.
Why it matters? Call of Duty on Game Pass means a flux of new gamers for the platform. So, introducing new tiers will help Microsoft gain more profit from them. However, general Call of Duty sales will undoubtedly suffer from it.
Call of Duty games have always been best-sellers. Even the last one, Modern Warfare 3, which wasn’t the best of the games managed to outsell other big names on all major platforms. So, putting it on Game Pass means heaps of new subscribers.
A trusted insider, Shinobi, has claimed that there will be changes to the Game Pass soon. Another trusted source, eXtas1s corroborated the the report and claimed the service is soon introducing new tiers specifically because of Call of Duty.
While this move will substantially increase the audience on Game Pass, it will also result in Call of Duty sales suffering in general. But it would also mean that more people will be interested in Xbox consoles so it could ultimately be good for business.
Call of Duty is among the biggest franchises to ever exist in the industry. When the Activision Blizzard deal went through there were already rumors of the franchise on Game Pass. But now, it seems it will be announced soon.
However, while the sources are trusted it is better to take this information with a grain of salt. If Microsoft is indeed making changes to the Xbox tiers we might be seeing them announced at the upcoming Xbox showcase event.
