Naughty Dog Doesn’t Want To Be Known For The Last of Us Forever

Expect Multiple New Single-Player Games in Future!

Story Highlights
  • Neil Druckman says Naughty Dog won’t always remain The Last of Us studio.
  • Instead, they have multiple single-player projects in the works.
  • No details about these new projects have been provided yet.

Naughty Dog has been one of the finest first-party PlayStation studios for as long as we can remember. Having titles like Uncharted, Crash, and The Last of Us in their portfolio, they’ve always been impressive.

While the team hasn’t been the most varied in recent years, Neil Druckmann says that Naughty Dog won’t always be ‘The Last of Us’ studio.

Why it matters: The studio has been recently criticized for focusing too much exclusively on The Last of Us after it released a remake and remaster in recent years.

The Last of Us Part 2
The Last of Us is one of gaming’s most popular franchises.

Talking to the Los Angeles Times, Neil Druckmann discussed the team’s current state and ambition to work on new things. He further revealed that they currently have multiple projects lined up for the future.

I promise you, we will not be ‘The Last of Us’ studio forever.

-Neil Druckman

According to Neil Druckmann, multiple titles are in development, and they are all single-player projects.

Compared to its previous record, the studio has launched three titles for The Last of Us series in the last seven years. Another multiplayer game based on the IP was also in development, though the project was cancelled last year.

While we already know that the third installment of the game is in the plans, it won’t be Naughty Dog’s next game, as Druckmann hinted. A new IP was also spotted from a developer’s LinkedIn profile.

Uncharted Lost Legacy's Gameplay
A new Uncharted game developed by Naughty Dog is long overdue.

Perhaps the team could return to Uncharted or one of the many IPs it pioneered several decades ago. Whatever the case may be, fans can always count on Naughty Dog to deliver excellent experiences.

For now, Druckmann hasn’t revealed what exactly the new projects are. Considering we might have a major PlayStation showcase planned for September, more information on this supposed single-player game could be shared at this event.
