Konami Leaving Choice Up To Players Themselves!

Story Highlight
  • Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is set to finally launch later this month.
  • Konami says the game won’t replace the original Metal Gear Solid 3 since older players may still prefer the classic version.
  • The studio believes the choice is up to the players, and both versions hold a lot of merit.

Remakes are often considered the definitive way to play iconic classics, thanks to revamped controls, updated visuals, and more. However, Konami seems to be taking a different approach with Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake.

Set for launch later this month, this remake promises to capture the thrills of one of Hideo Kojima’s most iconic gaming adventures. Although the remake is set to follow the original closely, Konami says it doesn’t necessarily serve as a replacement.

Why it matters: Metal Gear Solid 3 remains one of Konami’s most well-received releases, so dedicated fans have a lot of strong opinions regarding the title.

The Remake Completely Rebuilds The Visuals In Unreal Engine

Speaking to PC Gamer via GamesRadar, series producer Noriaki Okamura discussed the implications of two Metal Gear Solid 3 releases being available to fans from August 28 and beyond.

He noted that newer players will likely find Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake more comfortable due to its refined controls and modern visuals. However, the producer was also quick to acknowledge veteran fans.

Noriaki Okamura stated that older fans may still find the original Metal Gear Solid 3 preferable, so the upcoming remake isn’t necessarily being pushed as the definitive way to experience the series’ third iconic entry.

Hideo Kojima’s unique creative touch will also be missing from the remake, putting it in an interesting position for fans who appreciate the developer’s work. Ultimately, Konami is leaving the choice up to the players.

We would like to leave that decision up to the players themselves.

Voice actor David Hayter holds a similar opinion, stating that the original games continue to hold up well. He agrees that Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is more of a different version than an outright replacement.

Konami Is Betting Big On MGS3’s Return

Fortunately, the publisher has made it so that the older games are easier than ever to revisit with the Master Collection. This should allow every fan to decide for themselves whether the upcoming remake serves as a replacement or alternate version of Metal Gear Solid 3.

The gaming giant is also expected to remaster Metal Gear Solid 4, bringing the entire series to modern systems.
