Metal Gear Solid 4 Port Spotted In Master Collection Files

Metal Gear Solid 5 & Peace Walker Also Referenced!

Konami is revisiting its classic games in the form of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection. The first volume of this collection has received mostly positive reviews, with many citing Konami’s lack of upgrades as a major negative.

Nonetheless, fans are now able to revisit these iconic games on modern platforms. This release has also provided more evidence for another collection. According to a Reddit user, files referencing Metal Gear Solid 4 can be found in the Master Collection Vol 1.

Why it matters: Previously, Konami teased a remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4, and these files have provided further evidence for an imminent release.

In addition to Metal Gear Solid 4, the Master Collection contains references to games like Metal Gear Solid 5 and Peace Walker.

Looking at these files, we have come to two conclusions. Either these games were initially planned for the same package and cut later on, or Konami has left remnants of a second collection in the game files.

Whatever the case may be, a new collection with more Metal Gear Solid titles appears to be imminent. This is good news for Metal Gear Solid 4 fans, which remains exclusive to the PS3.

Since PlayStation does not support backward compatibility for consoles older than the PS4, this entry of the franchise is hard to play today. Emulation is one solution, but due to the challenging hardware of the PS3, the console is not easy to emulate.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

We believe a second collection will be worth it if Konami is finally able to bring the PS3-exclusive entry to other platforms. It has been revealed that the game was already capable of running on the Xbox 360, so a port should not be too hard to create for modern platforms.

Nonetheless, it appears Konami has no intentions of letting the Metal Gear Solid franchise rest. In addition to another collection, the publisher is working on a remake and is open to even more re-releases depending on the demand.
