Basically Overwatch With Spider-Man, Iron Man, And More!

Story Highlights
  • Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 third-person shooter.
  • It features everyone’s favorite Marvel characters, including Spider-Man and Iron Man.
  • A Closed Beta test for the game will be conducted in May.

Marvel has been on a roll lately, revealing one game after another. A few days ago, Epic Games dropped a new trailer for Black Panther and Captain America’s narrative game.

While excitement for this project is still high, a PvP take on Marvel’s popular characters has now been unveiled.

Why it matters: This type of game is not the first thing that comes to our mind when thinking about Marvel games. Therefore, developers are now taking more creative liberties with these characters.

Marvel Rivals is, for all intents and purposes, an Overwatch clone in third-person, with characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, and more teaming up for superhero mayhem.

However, taking the Overwatch PvP concept, this shooter offers a unique 6v6 premise, combining characters from the Marvel mythos. It combines both melee-based heroes and those that traditionally rely on ranged combat.

A Closed Alpha test has also been announced. In May, this shooter will be available for players to try on the Epic Games Store and Steam. Furthermore, the PvP shooter is headed to PC and mobile devices.

Marvel Rivals Is The Crossover Game Nobody Expected

Development on the project is being led by veterans from franchises like Call of Duty. Therefore, they bring plenty of shooter experience to the table, promising another unique spin on Marvel’s characters.

Marvel has supposedly confirmed its plans to explore gaming further, so fans should keep an eye out for more unexpected projects like Marvel Rivals in the future.

If Marvel Rivals can find the success of its inspiration, the game has the potential to spawn a new wave of comic book games. We would not be surprised if DC plans to offer a similar game based on its characters after its interest in live service projects.

However, with no release date in sight, it remains to be seen if Marvel Rivals will break into the live service space or end up like one of the many failed attempts at this genre.
