End of The Line For Kaspersky In US!

Story Highlight
  • The US has raised concerns about Kaspersky Lab being used to steal sensitive data.
  • Kaspersky Lab is set to end all activities in the region starting from July 20.
  • Existing US customers have until the end of September to find a replacement.

The United States is a cautious country, which takes steps to stop other nations from eavesdropping on information or jeopardizing national security. It has proven to be very protective after taking action against China, which was recently prohibited from acquiring semiconductors and AI-related equipment.

Now, the US is accusing Russian Companies, including Russian cybersecurity and antivirus software provider Kaspersky Lab, of stealing sensitive data.

Why it matters: Kaspersky is a popular anti-virus of choice for millions across the globe. Over the years, it has established a solid reputation.

Kaspersky Is An All-Purpose Antivirus Software

The Kaspersky Lab declared that it would begin to cease all of its activities within the United States from July 20. After 12 firm executives received sanctions and the company’s products were prohibited from being sold in the United States, the closure was unavoidable.

Kaspersky was sanctioned in June by the Bureau of Industry & Security of the Department of Commerce. The company was prohibited from offering any antivirus or cybersecurity products to any American.

This will force them to discontinue selling their goods in the US, which will definitely hurt the business. Overall, the closure will impact fewer than 50 American employees.

The main issue is the Russian company’s declining reputation as a result of US accusations that it poses a security danger. The US government is concerned that Kaspersky Lab may acquire information that Russia could use against them.

Although Kaspersky Lab has chosen to soon cease all of its operations in the United States, users of its antivirus software will have more time to take action. In particular, American residents who own the antivirus software have until September 29, 2024, to uninstall Kaspersky and find a replacement program.
