You may call me “old-school,” but there are real and practical reasons that this feature is really a game changer.

Imagine being in the middle of a game, and your battery starts to dip. With removable batteries, you don’t have to rush to find a power outlet. A quick battery swap will bring you back into the game with no downtime. This is life-saving, isn’t it?

Swapping isn’t just a theory. I routinely swap batteries to keep myself in the game without any delay. I swapped my 64Wh battery for a 90Wh one, giving me ~40% more game time. It’s a huge advantage, especially if you’re in the middle of a tournament.

Removeable Batteries Ensure Longevity

Gaming laptops are famous for battery degradation. The average lifespan of a gaming laptop is about five years, but after a year or two of heavy use, you might notice a significant decrease in battery life. Typically, a lithium-ion battery loses 20% of its power storage capacity after 500 charge cycles. However, there is a simple fix with a spare battery. 

The extra battery not only brings convenience to my life but is also sustainable. Instead of discarding a perfect running gaming laptop because of a tired battery, you can keep it up for a couple of more years.

Ditch The Traditional Overheating

If you get the most out of your gaming laptop, you’ll experience a lot of heat, which can reach 95 degrees Celcius, which is enormous. Overheating can shorten the lifespan of your machine and cause thermal throttling over time. In intense gaming sessions, you can simply change the battery, which reduces the heat exposure.

In my experience, this simple trick can make a noticeable difference in maintaining peak performance. After 3-hours of gaming, I compared internal temperature with and without battery. The difference was 10 degrees Celcius.

Investment Should Be Future-Proof

New technologies emerge every day when the technology is a buzzword now and might be obsolete tomorrow. Removable batteries give you a degree of future-proofing. The flexibility of finding a compatible battery is invaluable in this fast-paced industry.

High performance and frame rate come at a cost, such as low power backup. Despite gaming laptops’ very low power backups, there’s a certain freedom not to tie to a wall outlet. The laptop with removable batteries allows a limit of freedom to game wherever you want to game at the time of your convenience.

In the era of sleek design and slim laptops with fixed components, I prefer the indispensable feature of a gaming laptop: removable batteries. Although many manufacturers are shifting to non-removable batteries, I absolutely love that I can remove my laptops. Plus, this is something that I will always look for whenever I’m switching to a different laptop – it has become a must-have for me.
