- A movie based on Horizon Zero Dawn, from Sony, is planned to launch in 2027.
- There is a complete script, and the company is seeking a director to begin shooting next year.
- Aloy will be central to the plot and the IPs overall franchise-building.
Sony has tried to diversify its portfolio this generation by expanding its most popular IPs into other forms of media. This approach has led to successful adaptations like The Last of Us TV show, but it has also produced average run-of-the-mill movies like Gran Turismo and Uncharted.
The Japanese giant is working on several media projects at the moment as it has underlined ambitions of becoming an entertainment powerhouse like Disney. And, from the looks of it, one of the best-selling PlayStation IPs will be the company’s next throw at the wall.
Why it matters: Sony adapting its biggest IPs into movies is good for the wider industry as it brings a wider audience to the medium.

According to The Game Post, Sony has revealed in new court documents related to the Light of Motiram case that a Horizon Zero Dawn movie is slated for release in 2027, with filming set to begin next year.
Asad Qizilbash, the head of PlayStation Productions, was the source of this info in the court documents and stated that the movie has a finished script with Columbia Pictures producing. However, the picture is still seeking a director, despite its rather tight release window.
According to court documents, Aloy will be the center of the story, much like the Horizon games, with Qizilbash also emphasizing her importance to the PlayStation brand and franchise-building.
Sony only announced the feature film at the start of 2025, following the cancellation of a planned Horizon Zero Dawn show at Netflix. And, despite claims that there is no interest in Aloy, the series has been commercially successful time and again, garnering positive reviews.

In addition, this is just one of the many upcoming entertainment projects PlayStation has in the works, including the God of War Amazon series, a Ghost of Tsushima film, and a Helldivers movie, all of which are also in development.
