- Horizon 3 is reportedly being handled by only a small team for the last four to five years.
- An insider says that the game has been in pre-production during this time.
- Almost all of Guerrilla Games’ team is currently working on Horizon Hunters, a live-service project.
Following the massive success of the Horizon franchise, PlayStation has deemed it a worthy candidate for its live-service experiment. However, the live-service Horizon Hunters hasn’t been the most successful project in development.
Reports also suggest that this project has led to Horizon 3 taking the backseat at Guerrilla Games.
Why it matters: Reports reveal that Horizon Hunters has recently been rebooted, so Guerrilla Games may not have time to focus on Horizon 3 for a long while.

Horizon 3 has reportedly spent over 4 years in pre-production now, with Sony said to have assigned only a “tiny team” to the project during this period.
This information comes from the reliable Jason Schreier (via Neogaf), who notes that Guerrilla Games is instead focused on Horizon Hunters, the series’ live-service spin-off.
Of course, this decision is very interesting for a studio famous for its single-player releases. The fact that Horizon 3 has yet to enter production also means that the game is unlikely to arrive anytime soon.
If anything, it may not even see the light of day until halfway into the next generation.

PlayStation has scaled back its live-service plans quite a bit from a few years ago. However, it seems the gaming giant will continue to feel the fallout of overprioritizing live-service gaming in the coming years.
What do you think about the decision to prioritize live-service over a true Horizon Forbidden West sequel? Leave your thoughts below in the comments.
