Going All In On Horizon IP Now!

Story Highlight
  • Fans are interested in a Killzone revival, but Guerrilla Games has other plans.
  • An Art Director from the studio confirms that everyone decided to move on from the series.
  • The studio is now focused on expanding the Horizon series after recent successes.

The Killzone series was one of PlayStation’s most memorable IPs during the PS3 era. While it failed to measure up to God of War, Uncharted, and The Last of Us, this IP was a confident representation of Guerrilla Games’ vision for a military first-person shooter.

It’s no surprise, then, that many are rallying for a revival of the IP today. With Guerrilla Games releasing critically acclaimed and commercially successful games recently, fans hope to see the studio revisiting this iconic series.

However, the team has recently suggested that it has no intention of doing so.

Why it matters: Most games from the Killzone series are trapped on the older hardware of the PS3. Killzone Shadowfall’s multiplayer was also shut down on the PS4 and PS5, creating demand for a fresh entry.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Art Director Roy Postma discussed Guerrilla Games’ shift to the more vibrant world of Horizon.

He stated that the team was looking for a refresh and collectively decided to shift gears. However, the Art Director followed with a statement that has interesting implications for the studio’s future.

We were done with it (Killzone) as a team.

He emphasized that Horizon’s different approach was deliberate and meant to bring a sense of fresh excitement to everyone involved.

Despite the current demand for Killzone, Guerrilla Games has evidently moved on for good. While a remaster or remake can still happen in such circumstances, the statement does not bode well for any potential original entries from the studio.

At present, the team has gone all in on Horizon. Multiple new games are in the works, and a remaster of the first title is set to launch later this month. Lego Horizon Adventure also arrives next month, expanding the series to a new audience.
