- Senior journalist claims GTA 6 will likely be delayed to 2026.
- The game is a huge project, and Rockstar doesn’t want to pressure its developers.
- Notable announcements this year could be the Silksong release and the Half-Life 3 announcement.
2025 is supposed to be a year with huge releases, marking one of the most important years in gaming this decade. However, it seems that the biggest and most anticipated game of the year, GTA 6, is set to slip to 2026 from the previous 2025 release window.
According to Senior journalist Jason Schreier, what most gamers feared is set to become true, and GTA 6 is now expected to be delayed until next year.
Why it matters: The delay to 2026 has been a part of rumors for a few months now. The word from the insider cements the rumors.
Writing at Bloomberg, Schreier went into detail about what to expect from the industry in 2025. He said that Grand Theft Auto is a huge and ambitious game, and to make it great, Rockstar doesn’t want to push its developers too much; therefore, a delay is expected.
The next Grand Theft Auto is a huge and ambitious game, I expect that it will slip to 2026.
– Jason Schreier
If this is true, the PC version of the game might not launch before 2027, which is going to be a major disappointment for many people. However, it would be better if Rockstar took its sweet time because nobody wants a Cyberpunk 2077 situation with GTA 6.
Schreier also revealed there will be 2 major announcements this year: Silksong’s release and Half-Life 3 announcement. While the fans would be disappointed to hear a potential GTA 6 delay, it is better to wait for an official word.
